[ + - * / ]   Chung-Kun Wang Solo Exhibition: Sound Installation

About the Exhibition

Sound creator of the new generation Chung-Kun Wang concentrates on creative combination of sound and power installation, who upholds a dedication of almost like religious asceticism. Each of his installation contains a concurrently indirect and simple sense; yet this simple sound can only transform its significance through a complex (and with strong body sense) loop; such paradox also occurs on him in live performance, whose silent body faces with complex installation and transforms into voice inside the body.

Chung-Kun Wang has developed multiple creative orientations since graduate school, whose works have evolved into installation types and manufacturing of musical instruments with multiple appearances through live performance. The title of this exhibition [ + - * / ] (Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) employs the mathematical signs in digital computer operations, implying digital media has been quietly planted on the intrinsic core in his work of classical machinery technology, which expands more possibility from continuous repetition to random sampling without the manipulation of frenzy impermanence.

The concept of his work comes from a record of sound, which transforms the notation-like record type into a “soundscape” through machinery operation in space, hanging with constantly-changing physical music notes similar to time line. Notations will be continuously generated through this installation during the exhibition term. Two live-performance of sound installation will also be scheduled.
